"Chronicles of Upper Burnet" (1)

Wednesday, October 20th.

A rather disappointing Sunday. it was the continuation of the same everlasting cloudy weather but it did not storm today.
I went down to Wat's, soon after breakfast. I found him home but alone. He was obliged to go to own for his wife and babies
who had staid over last night. I came back home and kept to myself there. Alvin has what appears to be a case of the "epizoot."
No other note-worthy incident occurred here, I believe, to day.

Teaching thought. Wat's trip to town likley took 45 minutes to an hour one way even though they lived only around 4 miles.
The pace of a horse might make the trip a bit faster, but simply going to town was not the small thing that driving a car today would be.

You also might ask the students if they suddenly found them selves without a screen to view, how would they spend their time.
Would that be better..or worse? Might they occupy themselves keeping a journal such as William Gregory did?
